Coming soon…..a Neighborhood Watch for us!

March 10, 2011

Yesterday I had a wonderful chat with one of our neighbors….unfortunately, he wasn’t bringing me the best of news. Apparently there have been several more burglaries in the neighborhood last week.  All occurred during daylight hours and it appears that the burglars waited until a time when they knew that no one would be home.

Special thanks to Bayshore Resident Jim for bringing these issues to the attention of the police and to me as well.  I will be working together with Jim and the local authorities to help set up a neighborhood watch program.  Be on the lookout for dates and times of an organizational meeting.

In the meantime, if you have an alarm, please set it when you leave the house during the day.  I know that it’s virtually impossible with work and children etc., but if there is a way to vary your schedule, please do!  Stay safe and try to stay dry today!

  1. Would like to know where breakins are occurring. Not easy to find this info.

  2. I hate to hear about this!! How will we organize the community watch?

  4. We were broken into at Thanksgiving. I contacted the admin of this blog, the paper, and WECT to get the word out. There have been over 54 reported crimes in our neighborhood in the last two years. Many were forced entry into cars and homes. It is not easy to find, but you can get the information at the NHC Sheriff’s office website, click on the Sheriff to Citizen link at the bottom of the page, and you can search their database. It is a horrible database, so you may have to enter multiple searches to get the information you need. I made a printout of the addresses and types of crimes if anyone would like me to email them. Our break in was brutal and they still haven’t caught the thieves. My husband and I made flyers and talked to as many neighbors as we could. Some were concerned, but many seemed not too worried, assuming it couldn’t happen to them I guess. Our neighbors were all at home and no one saw or heard anything… We live on Aquarius, the most recent break ins were on Upland, but almost every street in our neighborhood has had some sort of break in. Think about how quiet and dark our streets are, it is the perfect place for criminal activity… A week or so after our break in, a neighbor contacted us as his home was broken into while he and his wife were AT HOME SLEEPING. We need to look out for each other and take our neighborhood back.

    • Can you please email me the list you pulled off the sheriff’s site. brad_overton@ajg.com. Thanks

    • Please email me the info you pulled off the Sheriff’s website. The breakins on Upland and Aquarius are too close for comfort.

      Thanks.
