New Entrance
May 6, 2010There has been a lot of discussion on the blog about the new entrance to Bayshore Estates. Many of you are quite happy with the entrance, the turn lane and the improved safety it provides but disappointed in the loss of a finished look with respect to plantings and landscaping. A concerned resident has sent a letter to the DOT to inquire about the landscaping. Once you receive a response from the DOT please share with us. The Fine Coastal Living Team would be happy to lend a hand in helping you. Just a reminder, the Bayshore Boat Ramp Cleanup takes place this Saturday, May 8th from 9-12. Bring your gloves, rakes, and trash can bags. This would be a good opportunity to meet your neighbors and chat about your future interests in the neighborhood entrance.

hi folks, this is the reply that i received from the dot: these trees were removed as part of roadway improvement requirements for a driveway permit by a local developer. the trees conflicted with clearance requirements from the new edge of pavement for the traveling public. as a result, the trees will not be replaced by the ncdot. all plantings within the ncdot rights of way are required to be reviewed by the diision roadside environmental engineer and approved through the encroachment agreement process prior to beng placed within the ncdot right of way. all plantings within the ncdot rights of way that may be in conflict with roadway projects are subject to removal.should you have any further questions for this process, please contact this office at 910-251-2655. so now you know the double standard the ncdot is showing. on military cutoff at lucia point, their island is much more narrow and shorter than ours and they have trees. does anyone know who the local developer was that requested this? maybe they can get the ncdot to give us a waiver.
That’s pretty much what the NCDOT guys working the job told me. In fact there will be more clearing to expose traffic signs along Bayshore Drive.
Funny thing….while I was there a motorist exiting Bayshore stopped and asked when the state was going to put the trees back and was told the same as I.
The state is broke folks.
Buy a tree, plant it, be happy!
The up side to the new turning lane is that only once in a while do we get someone sitting at the green arrow waiting for who knows what these days.
Also, folks just because the green arrow goes out doesn’t mean you can’t still turn left onto Market on the solid green. I see an occasional motorist coming to a dead stop in the far left lane just because the green arrow isn’t lit.
I agree that we should make our median pretty with trees and plantings. I am on board to contribute. Could we do away with all of the garage sale signs, political signs, real estate signs? They stay up there way too long and are really tacky. And they are sometimes a hindrance to our view of oncoming traffic from the south on Market Street!
I would be happy to contribute to the median also. I agree with David about all of the signs. If you can’t pick up your sign after your event, do not put one there at all.
We would also be willing to contribute to this effort. Perhaps a planning meeting would be in order to discuss a plan, plantings (i.e. drought tolerant), and find out how much interest there is. Plant information is readily available through New Hanover County Extension Svcs if needed.
Just wanted to know who I should thank for the trees at the front of Bayshore? They look great and I am so thankful for all the work and making it look so nice at our entrance.
Thank you!!
