Public Notice To Bayshore Residents
April 5, 2010The below message is from neighbor, Mac Farrow, who works for NCDOT and asked that this NCDOT public notice be placed on the BLOG. Thank you Mac!
Roadway improvements at the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Market Street are taking place soon. This includes signal and additional turn lanes on Bayshore Drive. In order to accomplish this work the median on Bayshore Drive will be narrowed. Thus, planting will be removed and the Bayshore Sign relocated. The work will improve safety and egress from the Bayshore area. Public comment will be welcomed on site at 10:45 am. on April 5, 2010.

I am thankful for the arrow light, we really need that when exiting out of Bayshore and turning left. Are they taking down all the trees?? I hope not. Would someone please e-mail me at Livebunch@aol.com with further information on that.
Thanks,
Renee Livesay
I am VERY happy for the addition of the left turn lane, but have a concern about how the crew will be leaving the condition of the median strip. Will bushes and grass be planted again? The other side of the median strip doesn’t match the new one and doesn’t look very nice…will that be changed to match the new one? If anyone knows the details about this, will you share with all of us? Thanks.
Currently the intersection at Bayshore and Market only has left turn signals for those heading north on Market and turning left into West Bay Estates. Will these current improvements result in a left turn signals from Bayshore onto Market AS WELL AS left from Market onto Bayshore?
I agree with Bill. We do need a left turn arrow from Market onto Bayshore, whe coming from Porters Neck!
About time……we are eat up with dumba$$e$ who don’t know how to make a left turn out of Bayshore.
Hopefully this will work.
That’s not exactly true, Smiley. In order to get out of Bayshore during high traffic times turning left, the Bayshore driver must illegally turn left while those coming right out of Torchwood really have the right of way. That or get your rear end run over or “honked.” It is unsafe and stressfull- hopefully there will be a left turn arrow soon!
I am happy about the work being done. I believe that the work that is needed, it also creates jobs and could very well save lives, our lives. Also the workers are making good progress and should be done soon, then move to the other side of market to do the same.
Plus we keep the Bayshore Estates sign..
now that the island at the entrance is completed, who will be replacing the trees? is any planting expected? what happened to the proposed change for the bayshore sign and possible lighting? i am hopeful that some beautification of this site will take place.
@maureen……..get a grip dahlin. Landfall is down the road, Marsh Oaks a short trip up 17 and so is The Neck of Porter…….there are a lot of homes for sale in either one of those places and they have all the lights and beautification anyone could possibly want. Oh yeah and fees and dues to go along with all that bling.
bayshore estates is a beautiful community, having been here long before the developments you mentioned. i have a source of pride in my home and community.i’m sure you do too. so why the hostile response. i would like to see if we could come together on a solution and involve our neighbors, the real estate agents who sell here, and cameron development and possibly the dot. anyone have some feasible ideas? thanks.
@ maureen…….not hostile. Just saying the folks that have all that bling pay heavily for it. I take real good care of my property and I am sure you do as well…..it’s my money spent my way. Bling on the Bayshore entrance isn’t going to enhance our individual homes. Plant some grass in the island, cut it from time to time….put a few yard sale, political, commercial and open house signs up and voila, it’s a done deal. :D
The work at the front entrance has obviously been completed. The results are extremely disappointing. No we are not Landfall or Marsh Oaks, but expecting things to be done correctly is not just for the rich folks. If the DOT did this work at Landfall or Marsh Oaks it would not have been left like this, and replaced not at the expense of the homeowners. No one is asking for sod and palm trees, but the condition it has been left in is unacceptable.
I would like for us to come up with a plan to re-plant something more than grass in that barren center. Perhaps several residents could contribute a tree, a bush, or flowers. If we each contribute something it wouldn’t be a big financial burden on any one family. I have many daylillies I can contribute. First, we need someone to draw up a landscape plan. Anyone good at that or have a friend who could do that for us?
I might know someone who could come up with a landscape plan and will ask, then re-post here. I agree with Cathy that the job is not complete. While we are fortunate to now have a turn lane, those of us that take pride in our neighborhood and not just our yards, should contact those who performed the work and determine why the plan shortchanged us in terms of replacing the front entrance as it once was. The cost is not as much bling as one would think. Does anyone have a contact for the people performing the work, paying the bill, and approving the plan. If so, please post.
i have sent an e-mail to the dot, communications office, comment site as follows: several weeks ago a project was initiated at bayshore drive and market street. more specifically it was the new left turn lane at bayshore drive, to do this, part of the middle island was removed to accommodate a new left turn lane.several bradford pear trees were removed. when the project was completed, grass was planted; however the trees were not replaced. this has a very deliterious effect on the entrance to our neighborhood. why were the trees not replaced? i thought this was supposed to be done by the dot. please send a response and the name of our contact person asap. our e-mail site is gathering many comments concerning the poor follow up job on the bayshore entrance.(end of message). i think it would help if we can send more e-mails to this dot site.if our coastal living team is reading the comments, i would also like to hear from them on any suggestions they might have.
maureen, please provide the e-mail address for all of us so we can submit similar comments to the one as good as yours…thanks!
Also to everyone, I have contacted a landscape vendor to provide us at least two estimates on tree replacements. As soon as I hear back with quotes, I will post again here…thanks
Hi Everyone,
I have also sent an email to the DOT about the landscaping at the entrance to see if they are planning to do anything else. Just go to http://www.ncdot.gov and go to contact link at the top right side of the page then click on the contact us link in the middle of the page and that will take you to the page where you can email your concerns. It states emails are answered during normal business hours within 7 days and after you submit your email you will receive a tracking number and instructions on how to view the response to your comment within 2 days. I’ll post any response I receive from the DOT.
Thanks,
Victoria
My husband and I just returned from being away three weeks only to find that the entrance to Bayshore is still a disappointment. Granted the median is finished as far as curbing and the sign is in place but the lack of landscaping detracts from our entrance. What is the status of DOT replacing the trees and other shrubs? Also is there an active garden club in Bayshore?
Thanks for any information anyone has.
Hi everyone. My wife and I are relocating to Wilmington for my work. I am currently in town living at our vacation home up in Surf City. We are very interested in your community and would be very happy living in the community. I am a sales manager for a commercial landscaping company. If we were to move into the community, I could come up with a free design and get plants at wholesale. It could be a neighborhood project
Thanks for your posting Justin. Perhaps since you are in the commercial landscaping business, you have experience working with the DOT. That is where our office and the good people of Bayshore Estates do not have the contacts to proceed. The Fine Coastal Living Team at Keller Williams would love to help you find that house in Bayshore Estates when you are ready! :0)
